Stanford 30 - Oregon 53 (Nov 11) : For my first football game, I went to a great one. The Gameday crew was on hand to see the biggest game of the weekend: Oregon at Stanford. The game was tight for a while, but several dropped passes and five turnovers were too much for Stanford to overcome. I did get to see Andrew Luck make a few great plays and throw a few TDs. I also saw how fast Oregon was in person - it was like watching a video game in person. LaMichael James' throat slash after his TD was not caught by the officials, but it was the kind of classiness that you can expect these days, I guess.

I couldn't resist a few shots of the band and the fans. They were having a good time throughout the game.

Photo order: Action first, band and other stuff second. Pop it into slideshow and enjoy.

Enjoy

2012 Fiesta Bowl - Stanford 38 - OSU 41 (Jan 12) : It was the best game of the Bowl Season, and I was blessed enough to shoot it from the sidelines. The game was excellent, up until I saw the final score. Coach Shaw finished with a great 11-2 record in his rookie season. Sadly, i was at both losses. Although Andrew Luck is gone, the Cardinal added Hall of Fame blood with Barry Sanders' son committing to Stanford a week after the game.

In addition to meeting Tiger before the game, I got a chance to saw hello to Jim Plunkett and talk a few times with Ed McCarffrey. Both were nice guys. I tried to put the games shots (and other favorites) first. There are some random shots at the end. If you want the full unedited gallery, go to the FB page.

If you are an OSU fan, you'll notice I didn't get many shots of the team. I didn't go to see them. Sorry (not really).

Enjoy.

Stego Jam (Parkour) (Oct 11) : After searching for a while, I finally got to a Parkour jam. The weather was a little chilly, but we went and shot some photos anyway. It was actually warm for this time of year. Anyway, the jam was OK, but the lighting was terrible for shooting. I'll certainly check in with these guys again next summer and try to find them.

Thanks to Dizzy D (@dizzydelila) for the 411 on the meeting spot. Much appreciated.

Photos are not lock, download and enjoy.

Barcelona Bullfight (Jul 11) : After striking out in Valencia, we got to Barcelona to find out that there was a Bullfight on our first night. After a day of exploring the city, we ended with a cab ride over to Monumental for the big day. The scene outside was chaotic because there were about 10 ticket windows and a flat out mob in front buying tickets. Despite being cash-only, it moved really slow. In the heat, tempers flared a bit. Combine that with protesters, police and traffic and you have quite a scene.

We got seats in the sun (cheaper) and awaited the spectacle. Here's basically how it goes down for each bull:
1. The Bull enters and 5-6 matadors get him to tire himself out running after them before they duck behind a wall
2. Two Picadors come out on blindfolded horses and stab the bull between the shoulders with a long spear (a "vara")
3. Three banderillas come out and stand in from of the bull and get him to rush them. At the last minute they try to plant 2 banderillas in its back. This is, by far, the gutsiest part of the fight because the bull is still strong and they are unprotected in the center of the ring
4. A matador comes out with a sword and teases the bull with the cliche red-cape. He dances with a bull, but at this point the bull is a bloody mess (literally) because it's been running and bleeding for several minutes.
5. The matador switches to the "real" sword and eventually stabs the bull between the shoulders, trying to piece the heart or the aorta
6. The bull eventually collapses, is stabbed in the head, and if the matadors was good the bulls ears are severed as a trophy

The first bull we saw died badly. He vomited blood for a minute or so before collapsing. The 5th bull must have had on armor because the matadors had to try 5 times to get the sword in deep enough to kill him. It's worth noting that the picadors horses were armored. This was good because the bulls tried to gut them. Apparently before 1930, the horses didn't have any protection and more horses would get disemboweled during a day of bullfighting that bulls would die. Who knew?

Regardless, here are photos from the whole evening. We saw six bulls go down. I went. I probably won't go back - but I did eat "bull" on the train the next day for lunch.

Grizzlies - Thunder (Mar 11) : On a trip to Memphis, the team decided to walk across the street and check out a Grizzlies game. The bonus was the the "Scorer", AKA Kevin Durant, was in town. Th Grizzlies won 107-101 in a game that got close at the end. They led the whole way and led by as many as 17 at one point. It got with within 1 point, but the Thunder could get over, plus, they let the Grizzlies benefit mightily from 12 turnovers - including some downright embarrassing ones.

Durant got off to a slow start, then stroked a slew of 3's later in the game to help close the gap. I don't recall ever seeing a guy that big shoot with such a smooth release. He finished with a quiet 23. he was also well rested since he spent a lot of the fourth quarter standing in one spot on the wing watching his teammates. Westbrook led the Thunder with 27. The Grizzlies had 5 players in double figures.

The sad part is that the arena was empty for most of the game. It felt like we were a high school game. Just about anyone in the arena could have shared their thoughts with the other 27 people in attendance (a few did). If your team is mediocre, then you have to entertain the fans. The mascot was not that fresh and the in-game entertainment was boring. You'd think team management would talk some lessons from the local minor league team. Come on folks. It aint' rocket science.

In any case... I'll hit another game if the schedule allow. Enjoy the pix...

Grizzlies - Thunder (Mar 11)

Bulls-Magic (Jan 11) : I was a bad "corporate fan" at the game last night. In the end, I watch about half the game and shot a few pix. Of the 50 I shot, here are a few that I liked. The Bulls won 99-90, and for the second time this month, I missed a Big Mac by 1 point. Then again, I don't eat McD's. Anyway, Dwight Howard was a monster with 40 and 15. Rose's 22 and Deng's 26 were too much (especially since Rose was 4 boards shy of a trip-dub. When did Arena's join the Magic?!?! He was smooth.

Bulls-Magic (Jan 11)

Bulls - Heat (Jan 11) : So after all the hype on D-Wade's birthday homecoming to Chicago, I ended up going to the game. From the box, it's a little tricky to get good shots and I was among friends, so I didn't shoot too much. That's said, I did take a few and got some nice ones.

Lebron and Noah didn't play, which also wasn't cool... We had a good time anyway... The dessert cart is bananas...

Wade and Rose went back and forth all night. Rose finished with 34 and Wade had 33. I hadn't really seen Bosh before, but he's a silky smooth power forward who dropped in 17. In the end, Wade's 3 pointers as time ws running out came up short and the Bulls won 99-96. One point short of a Big Mac!

Bulls - Heat (Jan 11)

Bulls-Bobcats (Nov 09) : First game of the season for me, and I was courtside with my bro-in-law. Here are a few shots from a 93-90 Bulls victory. Derrick Rose seems to throw passes to the crowd the whole game. He ended with 7 turnovers and only 4 assists. Not good. Salmons got off early and ended with a game-high 27.

There were two female firsts in the game too. The first female NBA ref was on the officiating crew. Also, the first woman to coach a pro men's team was working as a sideline report for the Bobcats. Very cool... except their success didn't exactly open the floodgates.

Enjoy the pics.

Bull-Hornets (Dec 09) : December 26, 2009 I took the fam to a Bulls game to see the lowly Hornets. A few things stood out: Okafor was always in the mix on D - either blocking or going hard for the ball. Stojakovic is a tree on D - he almost never moved, like he had roots. Chris Paul didn't show up - I was excited to see him play, but he didn't do squat and finished with 15pt and 7asst.

The Hornets made Tyrus Thomas looks like he was an all-star - 21 pts and all kinds of dunks and hard drives.

In the end, the Bulls broke it open in the 3rd and never looks back. The did manage to turn the ball over and miss enough layups in the 4th to prevent everyone from winning a free Big Mac. Final score: Bulls 96 Hornets 85

Bulls - Magic (Jan 10) : Jan 2, 2010 - One more game with the long zoom from the box. Although it was nice to get a chance to see Dwight Howard, the game was pretty much all Bulls. They led by 15 with 6 minutes left, but true to 2009/10 form, blew the lead. It was a 3pt game with 27sec left on the clock, but then D. Rose drained 2 free throws and Noah and Salmons sealed it from the line in the final seconds.

D. Rose finished with 30pts/7ast, and was fearlessly attacking the basket all night. Dwight Howard finished with only 9pts/12reb. Jameer Nelson was able to get by Rose at will, but only finished with 10 pts.

The biggest surprise of the night for me was seeing White Chocolate take the court! That's right, Jason Williams! I didn't even know he was still in the league.

Bulls - Magic (Jan 10)

Bulls-Cavs (Mar 08) : March 6th, 2008 I had a chance to watch King James visit the United Center for courtside seats (2nd row on the baseline). Here are 26 favorites from the 200 I kept. Lebron finished with 39, but the Bulls won 107-96 and it wasn't close at all in the 2nd half. The 70-200/2.8 was well worth in the investment.

Cicloton Familiar, Mexico City (Jun 07) : My last morning in Mexico City, I realized there was a "bike the city" event going on after I shot the flag raising ceremony. After taking boring photos of bike riding by, I decided to sit in the middle of the street to get a more intersting perspective. Here are some of my favorite results.

Broken Arrow Show (June 09) : First shoot of the season and my first shoot with the new body. Murdock (the Man with no first name) asked me to stop by and shoot some pix of the show. It was a rainy Saturday, but the riders and the crowd was enjoying the day anyway. Here are ~57 of my favorite pics from the day.

Email me if you'd like access to the full set of 300 photos from the day (they're in a private gallery). They are all unedited, but I did get photos of just about everyone who rode before the intermission. Email: keith@kbevphoto.com

Bulls-Celtics (Mar 08) : It wasn't a joke when Rejji came through with great seats for the Bulls vs. Celtics game on April 1, 2008. Here are some of the best shots from the 120 I shot... Takeaway from the game: That Garnett guy is pretty good. If you want to see the rest, email me.

Pembroke Rodeo (May 06) : These are some of my favorite photos from the 200+ I took at a Black Rodeo in Illinois. Most are unedited. If you want to see the rest, let me know.

That day, the D70 and 70-300mm Nikkor put in the bulk of the heavy lifting.

Bulls-Nets (Apr 09) : After a long winter with few opportunities to shoot, I decided to bring the camera to the Box at the UC. I have been to a few games there, but never thought I'd get good shots from that vantage point. My suspicions were correct, but here are 15 of the better shots from the day. For the record, the stadium was quiet for 45 minutes. The Bulls blew a lead but hung on to win 103-94.

Williams Sisters (Nov 04) : These are shots from their promo tour. It was my first attempt at indoor sports photography. I wish I knew then what I know now. It would have been a great day of photos!
Now I see why a 2.8 lens is useful! These pix are unedited (obviously) and dark.

Cut Throat MMA Chicago (Mar 12) : I decided to bring the gear to my 2nd MMA fight (first in about 4 years). A friend was fighting this night and after getting the drop on her opponent, landed several clean punches before the fight ended. To be clear, I couldn't take any of the folks I saw fight that night. However, some of them had no more business being in the ring than that I would have had. Here are a few photos from the night. If you know any of the fighters and want to add their names, let me know. Email keith@kbevphoto.com.

Enjoy
